The city of Belle Isle, established in 1924, is known in Central Florida for its chain of lakes, Lake Conway and Little Lake Conway are among the two largest. Both lakes feature several lake-style neighborhoods, most of which are located along Hoffner Avenue. Downtown Belle Isle intersects at Conway Road and Hoffner Avenue.
Belle Isle, also referred to as the Conway area and sometimes called "the airport area" because it is north-west of the Orlando International Airport.
In 2000, Belle Isle had a median family income of $68,571. More so than most places, the people in Belle Isle generally have good jobs with good salaries. The large segment of the population in the city with spending money keeps the city vital. Fewer people in Belle Isle are poor than in most places in Florida. Impressively, having a college education is normal in the city.
Sights and places
Swann Beach is a local park and swimming beach located at the east end of Swann Avenue. A sidewalk and deck with ramp make this park accessible to strollers, wheelchairs, walkers and mobility carts. The deck overlooks the south lobe of Lake Conway and is enjoyed by area residents. Swimming at your own risk is permitted. Beware parking is limited.
Lagoon Park is located in the south portion of the city between the east end of Trentwood Boulevard and the south end of Wind Willow Road. Lagoon Park is a passive park with walk paths surrounding a pond which attracts many varieties of birds and wildlife. Open grassy areas and picnic tables make this site suitable for a family picnic, frisbee disc, kite flying and other family activities.
Warren Park off of Seminole Drive you will find Warren Park which features a picnic area, playground and tennis courts. Swimming is also permitted in the beautiful Lake Conway at this park.
Barber Park is one of Orlando's most popular parks, Barber Park, is located near Belle Isle. On top of the baseball fields, picnic tables and butterfly garden; Barber Park also features outdoor roller hockey rink, three soccer fields, fishing, and playground. It is located South of Michigan St. between Conway Rd. & Dixie Belle on Gatlin Ave.
